I have always been an avid reader. By second grade, I was reading a chapter book a night with the light of my flashlight while everyone else in the house was asleep.
For years, I took notes on almost everything I read, focusing on what worked and what didn't, as well as common grammar and usage mistakes. I used the notes to hone my writing, but I also dreamed of using those skills to help others.
I continued to build those skills by completing the Poynter/ACES Copyediting certificate and various webinars and conferences offered through ACES membership.
In recent years, many things that jumped out at me are stereotypes of various people and misrepresentations of their experiences. As someone who has faced my fair share of stereotypes stemming from neurodivergence, chronic illness, infertility, and more, I enjoy helping writers avoid those issues in their writing by guiding them using my own experiences.
